Want to jump into Excel without any hassle?

Office 365 lets you use Excel directly in your web browser, so there's no need to download or install anything. Our tutorial will guide you through Excel using Office 365, which you can access at www.office.com.

Install

After signing in to Office at https://www.office.com/, find the Excel icon on the left and click it to launch the program.

To begin working on a fresh spreadsheet in Excel, launch the program and click the "New Blank Workbook" button.

Give your spreadsheet a name and press Enter

Excel spreadsheets are laid out in a grid format, with vertical columns and horizontal rows, just like a graph paper notebook you might use in math class. It may seem complex at first, but with practice, you'll become familiar with its features.

For now, let's focus on the basic building blocks of an Excel spreadsheet: columns, rows, and the individual boxes where they intersect, called cells. We'll start by creating a simple formula in one of these cells!

  • First, double click the cell A1, the one that is marked with the green rectangle in the picture.

  • Second, type =1+1.

  • Third, hit the enter button:
